O u r S t o r y
It was the year 1950 when Marcello Gori, together with his brother-in-law Silvano Casini, accepted the task of teaching war orphans the art of leather and hide working in what was the Novitiate of the Franciscan Friars, inside the Santa Croce Convent.
This is how the Scuola del Cuoio was born, strongly based on the concept of love for one's neighbor and, above all, on the awareness that experience must always be shared.
Many young people in difficulty have been helped since then. Unemployed, disabled, former juvenile prison inmates, people with mental disabilities have regained confidence in a future otherwise marked by the fear of failure.
The Marcello Gori Foundation, through his daughters, still wants to tell this long and beautiful story, and intends to spread the culture of artistic craftsmanship but never separated from the feeling of solidarity that has always permeated the work of the Scuola del Cuoio.
The will, determination, and gratitude of the past will once again support those projects that will help young people and children without hope for the future.
Bringing forth new artists in leather and hide working will be the ambitious task of the Foundation, discovering new talents hidden in those who just need a little help.
The Workshop School
The Marcello Gori Foundation is dedicated to introducing young people in need to the world of work by offering 9-month leather craftsmanship courses at the Scuola del Cuoio.
The Foundation's Executive Committee will evaluate the applications for admission.
The hope is to continue helping those in need to build a future for themselves.
Award Winners
Save the City 2023
Also in 2023 SaveTheCity presented, in collaboration with the Municipality of Florence, the Premio Firenze nel Cuore, an award given to deserving and virtuous citizens who represent an added value for Florence. The Corporate award went to the Scuola del Cuoio which has always brought prestige to Florence by producing leather goods of the highest quality, and to Fondazione Marcello Gori which carries on the social commitment that the Gori family began in 1950. The award was collected by President Barbara Gori, proud of her company but above all of the Foundation that every year helps young people in difficulty.
